Peel island leprosy. Lazaret 1907 1959 gazetted in 1906 the north west corner of peel island was established as a place to send people from across queensland who had been found to have hansens disease leprosy. Without ever receiving a clear diagnosis of leprosy she was forced to spend 12 years on peel island a leper colony off the south east queensland coast.
