Peru inca location. The modern name for the inca ruins of vilcabamba is espiritu pampa plain of the spirits. 1400 and 1533 ce and their empire eventually extended across western south america from quito in the north to santiago in the south making it the largest empire ever seen in the americas and the largest in the world at that time. The founder of the inca dynasty manco capac led the tribe to settle in cuzco which remained thereafter their capital.
According to their tradition the inca originated in the village of paqari tampu about 15 miles 24 km south of cuzco. It is located in the machupicchu district within urubamba province above the sacred valley which is 80 kilometres 50 mi northwest of cuzcothe urubamba river flows past it cutting through the cordillera and creating a canyon with a tropical mountain. The inca civilization arose from the highlands of peru in the early 13th century.
Vilcabamba in hispanicized spelling willkapampa aymara and quechua is often called the lost city of the incas. The coming of the spanish conquistadors in 1532 marked an end to the short lived inca empire. Traditional historiography claims the advance south halted after the battle of the maule where they met determined resistance from the mapuche.
The inca civilization flourished in ancient peru between c. Vilcabamba is located in echarate district of la convencion province in the cuzco region of peru. At its height the inca empire included peru western and south central bolivia southwest ecuador and a large portion of what is today chile north of the maule river.
From 1438 to 1533 the inca assimilated a large part of western south america into a state comparable to the historic empires of eurasia. Today pieces of the incan empire still remain in different areas of the central highlands of the andes. Machu picchu is a 15th century inca citadel located in the eastern cordillera of southern peru on a 2430 metre 7970 ft mountain ridge.
The inca civilization arose in the mountainous regions of peru in the early 13th century and was eventually based in its capital city of cuzco. The incas were a vast group and the strongest of this were located in the highlands. Starting from 1438 they began conquering lands surrounding the inca heartland of cuzco creating the largest empire in pre columbian america.
