Just 5km from the city of ica lies a picturesque lagoon surrounded by the biggest sand dunes you might ever see. An oasis town of about 120 people so we were told just outside ica. Many people dont realize that the peru desert oasis is located only 4 hours south of lima in the magical village of huacachina.
Its quite an amazing sight to see this oasis come into view. The huacachina oasis is the only natural oasis in south america and is located just 5 hours away from lima and 15 minutes away from the city of ica in southern peru. Its about an hour and a half south of paracas.

An oasis in the middle of the desert you say. But there is more to do in huacachina than just sandboarding and dune buggy tours. From winery tours to flights over the nazca lines you can even enjoy a boat tour to see humboldt penguins and sea lions up close in their natural habitat.
Street vendors peruvian restaurants and hostels hug the shore. The town was originally built as a resort for the peruvian higher classes. Visiting south americas one and only oasis is not just a great way to spend a day trip from lima it really is a must do when you are in peru.
